PHYSICAL EDUCATION AT LYNDON SCHOOL

Rationale

All students are entitled to a broad, balanced, relevant and differentiated programme of physical education within the curriculum.  The elements of the programme at Lyndon School and Humanities College have been chosen with a view to maximising its educational potential and therefore the focus is wider than merely the development of physical skills.

THE AIM OF PHYSICAL EDUCATION

- Provide appropriate opportunities and experiences for individuals to achieve
  their optimum potential.

- Develop knowledge and understanding of acquisition of skills and the value
  of exercise.

- Acquire and develop techniques and skills in a broad range of activity areas.

- Encourage and developing awareness through body awareness.

- Using sport to enhance and develop social awareness.

- To encompass enjoyment and satisfaction and thereby encourage a lifelong
commitment to an active and healthy lifestyle.

These aims are met by the means of Lyndon students participating in an appropriate and sensitively designed Physical Education curriculum to enhance the development of student’s personal skills within a social setting.

The Physical Education team ensure that the curriculum supports the five strands of the Every Child Matters agenda as follows;
- Be healthy
- Stay safe
- Enjoy and achieve
- Make a positive contribution
- Achieve economic well-being
The courses that we offer are
BTEC First Certificate in Sport for all students in KS4 and GCSE Physical Education as an option to students

Lyndon has a School Sports Co-ordinator (SSCO) who is one of our PE teachers, and who helps maintain a high standard of after-school sports clubs, and sport-liaison with other schools. As part of this, she selects and trains Lyndon students as Young Sports Leaders, who go with her to our Humanities College Primary Partner Schools to run sport workshops for Primary students.
