Lyndons redesignation as a Specialist Humanities College in early 2009 demonstrates the impact the Status is having with within school and in the community.
The foundation of our Humanities Status is our firm belief that Literacy is at the heart of students development, whether it is in the way that they express themselves in writing, or in their spoken words and their actions. We aim to develop our students to become mature and responsible citizens in our changing world. We firmly believe that children achieve best when they believe they can achieve, and because of that we have a clear emphasis on what we call the Social and Emotional Aspects of Learning (SEAL).
We started out by working through our three lead subjects for Humanities, namely English Drama and Citizenship. These subjects were the obvious starting points for us to enhance literacy and SEAL. Now, however, we are spreading out the ethos amongst all of the subject teams at Lyndon.
However, our Humanities status isnt just about maintaining high standards within school, but also about our partnerships within the local community. Various projects support our partner Primary schools and two local Secondary schools and we also have established firm links with some local businesses. Our links with Higher Education and Further Education providers is increasing, as we look to ensure that our students are aware of all the educational opportunities open to them when they leave Lyndon, and recognise that they can aspire to achieve in their chosen careers.
